How does it work?

Donations and Taxes

Donors receive an Ohio tax credit equal to their donation, up to the lessor of $750 per adult or their total Ohio income tax.  This is refunded when you file your Ohio income tax return via these steps:

1. Donate to the DRSGO and provide your email address.

2. Your donation receipt will be quickly emailed to you.

3. File your Ohio state income taxes as normal, and enter the DRSGO donation amount on the Scholarship Donation Credit line (usually Line 15) in the Nonrefundable Credits section.

4. Since the Ohio income tax system does not accept attachments, the state will usually contact you after you file your taxes asking for you to upload your donation receipt.

5. Once you upload your donation receipt, you will receive your tax refund.

The DRSGO is a 501(c)(3) charity under federal tax laws.  However, the IRS generally disallows tax deductions that receive state tax credits.  Therefore, generally only donations above the Ohio tax credit ($750 per adult, or your Ohio tax liability) are deductible for federal income taxes.

If you live outside Ohio, you can still give to the DRSGO! The DRSGO is a 501(c)(3) tax-deductible charity, so you can still take a federal tax deduction, if you donate by 31 December and itemize your taxes.

What Your Donation Does

About 98% of donations pay for scholarships at a Dayton Reformational Classical Christian school.  Only about 2% pays for the necessary administrative and accounting work. Our board members are unpaid volunteers who are not relatives of the staff, parents, or students of RCA.

The scholarship awards are normally distributed among all applicants who meet minimum academic standards.  Lower income families receive priority, but we have always been able to provide scholarships to all students.

The Dayton Reformation Scholarship Granting Organization grants scholarships without discriminating on the basis of race, color, or national and ethnic origin.
